Chocolate or Poop???

(*So much truth about pregnancy and parenthood in this movie..."It's still funny!")

The other day, Jon came in the family room and said, "Babe I just had the perfect parent moment". I said, "Oh really what happened?". He said, "I looked down at my shorts and noticed a brown substance and I put my finger in it to smell it and in my mind was thinking is it chocolate or poop, chocolate or poop". I couldn't help but crack up as the movie Baby Mamma entered my mind. After I had a good chuckle, I asked him what it was. He said it was chocolate....Is it kind of mean I was hoping it was poop? This lady likes a good laugh and I am a little evil!!!

Is it possible to be this tired!?!?!!?

(Word of CAUTION: This post is totally a rant)

Okay yes I am guilty!....I was one of those people in all my mighty experience and wisdom who said parents just need to let their babies cry it out and then they will have good sleepers. I know I was a brat and obviously not super worried about karma. Well let's fast forward to my current life where I have a 5 month old cutie that believes sleep is for the weak and nope I don't have to if I don't want to. He thinks life is a party 24/7 and he must be apart. He's not my child or anything...stubborn and likes to part...hmmmmm :) I know, I know, Jon and I are in for it!!!

Let me give you a little taste of our current extremely sleep deprived world. Little man usually graces us with his jibber jabbers around 7-7:30am. Jon or I go and get him and let me say this....he is the cutest little thing in the morning. No matter how bad he has been in the night....ohhhh and he is really bad a lot of times, he is so dang cute in the morning and he knows it!!!! Anyways we get him up play with him for the next 1/2 hour while his acid reflux meds kick in and then I feed him. After that more play time and then we head into danger zone #1...his naps. Granted they have gotten better since birth but those parents with perfect sleepers would curl up and die if they had my little Jax boy. To start off he is a tummy sleeper, which took me a good week of staring at the monitor and checking him every 5 minutes to make sure he was breathing, to be comfortable with it. Second, he now rolls in both directions....awesome, should have never encouraged it (just joking, okay partially just joking). Third, he is a binky baby, which was amazing when he was a newborn but has brought some bad habits into his later infancy. So back to nap time, he usually goes down pretty well, with occasional exceptions and sleeps for a good 45 minutes to an hour. Then he thinks its time to party, flips over onto his back, loses his binky, jibber jabbers until he realizes he is still so tired and in fact so tired he can't manage to flip himself back over and proceeds to scream because sleeping with out a binky and on his back is unacceptable (Yes I know he is a spoiled little guy! But in truth the only way we could get him out of his bouncer during naps was to have him sleep on his tummy....I swear if one thing doesn't back fire in our house with Jax, another thing does!!!). Usually I bite the bullet because in my mind I have justified well if he doesn't get good naps he won't sleep well at night, which in Jax's case is really the truth. So I truck myself in there, flip the monkey back on his tummy and pop in his binky. Most of the time this does the trick and he sleeps another hour. However, more often than I care to admit, this happens a few more times in the next hour of his nap. But on the rare occasion he sleeps through an entire 2 hour nap I am so elated there are no words!
So that was nap time. If I can get three naps in, even if one is a cat nap, I consider that a good day! Night time is where this post is getting its "steam". Oh night time, how I love and hate you all at the same time. For the few hours of sleep Jon and I get at night, we find complete bliss. But for all the other hours of crying, getting up and feeding, I find exhaustion and grumpiness...Jon is about the same! (I swear that guy is amazing, PT school, FT work and still manages to help this mommy out way more than he should have to). Here is a somewhat typical night at the Conleys....Jax in bed around 7pm, dream feed around 10:30pm, Jax up to play at 2am, let him cry a little bit. Then I think, "awww crap I should let Jon sleep". Let me explain this choice by saying, Jax has cried it out.....for hours at a time. Now I am not the meanest mom ever, I checked on him quite a bit during the time. Yes he did fall asleep but no he did not stay asleep and was about an hour or so later....We then repeated the cry and awake pattern again. Hence the first part of my post. So I do go in, put him back on his tummy, pop his binky in and he goes to sleep. Now on a good night he will sleep until 4 or 5 (his early morning feed) but on a bad/somewhat average night, he will be up 3 to 4 more times before his early morning feed. That is where my exhaustion lies.
I guess there really is no purpose in this post other than I want to remember the little and big things about Jax (good & a little naughty). That and my baby is currently napping and screaming into the pillow seems a little childish but there you have it. While I love the little monster with all my heart and more than anything.....I AM TIRED! And I will never say anything ever again about crying it out!
(So This week I think we are going to try Dr. Ferber's method as Baby Whisper did not work for us and neither did Baby Wise....Gotta love it. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming :))

We're Building a House!

After much time, debate and prayer we decided to build a house! I'm not going to lie still feels pretty surreal but we are so EXCITED! We keep thinking of what this will mean, hanging things on the walls and not stressing out about how much they will take out of our shrinking deposit. Putting Jaxson down for a nap and not worrying about people on all sides and outside screeching and yelling, not to mention our little toddler elephant upstairs who likes to run laps. Having a GARAGE and someday a back yard! And so many other things! I know owning a home is not all rainbows and butterflies but after three+ years in a condo (and 6 years in apartments before that), we are excited to plant some roots and have a home of our own.
The builder accepted our offer last week, so we are waiting for the permits to be approved so they can start digging! The build time is not that bad (well if they stay on the schedule they laid out). We should hopefully be in the beginning of July.

Our house! (well the stock photo of our floor plan. 4 bedrooms, 2 bath and an unfinished basement)

The builder....

And the location: (Saratoga Springs. So peaceful and away from the everything but close enough we won't go crazy)

5 Months Old!!!!

*(If you decide to read, be prepared for a novel...I am sure the posts/journal enteries will get longer and longer each month. So much going on in little mister's world. Feel free to skip to the pics :))

To say my baby is growing up way too fast is an understatement. The last 5 months have flown and I know it will only get progressively faster. :( So as challenging as some of Jaxson's quirks/stages might be I am truly trying to enjoy every moment(some days it's easier to do so than others!!!).
Let me tell you about our little guy. First let me say my most favorite thing in the morning, if I can muster the energy before Jon does, is getting the little monster out of bed! He does a frog leg kick with coordinating arm movements because he is so excited you are there. It is usually accompanied by a screech of elation and a big "I love you momma" smile. I also love that after I get him out of his crib we lay in bed until his acid reflux meds kick in. His favorite thing to do, watch videos of himself on my phone. I know it's probably a bad habit to start but his expressions are so dang cute. He loves watching "that baby" and listening to mom's voice. He also likes watching "that baby" in the mirror.

So more on little guy.....He has started to really like music. His favorite songs are *Baby Mine, *Popcorn Popping, 4 Little Ducks and Sunbeams, the first two being his go to songs. If little mister is having a melt down, I just bust out a rendition of Popcorn Popping and he'll give me a smile and cheer right up. He loves to "play" Itsy Bitsy Spider and Patty Cake. His belly laughs are to die for. Jon can usually get him crazy laughing when nuzzles his beard into Jax's neck crepe. It's pretty hilarious and adorable at the same time.
Our little monkey monster is becoming so mobile in his own little way. He now rolls over both ways and finds great pleasure in it. I love watching his face transform from complete determination to elation in a matter of seconds. The rolling for me is bittersweet. I love it because it makes him so happy and it's a huge milestone for his little world. However, he has started to roll in his sleep, which wakes him up and then he cries because he is too tired to roll back onto his tummy and has lost his binky (He still loves him some binky). He also tries to roll when I am changing his diaper, putting on his clothes, lotion, or pretty much anything else! He does the reach and roll over and over again and usually gets where ever he wants to go, which right now is to the blue bin with his baby stuff in it or the cable box. (yes I know the baby proofing is coming soon!!!). I am sure most of his upcoming milestones will be bittersweet. :)
Jax also started solids a couple of weeks before he hit 5 months. I went back and forth in my mind about waiting till 6 months but I figure I would try and see where he was at. He's the type of kid to let me know if he's not ready for something, let's just say he's not shy ;). Turns out the monkey loves him solids! So far he has had rice cereal and avocado. It took him a day or two to like rice cereal and two or three days to LOVE avocados. I think sitting in his special Jax chair (his high chair) is his favorite part. He loves to slam his hands down on the tray and gets the cutest smirk after he does it! He might be a little mischievous. He also knows when it's time to get out of the high chair and as soon as you remove the tray, he starts tap on the buckle...I love that :).
He still has his usual obsessions including tubby time. He would spend the whole day in the bath if I'd let him. He loves to suck on wet rags and eat bath letters. He also found a lot of happiness and smiles in watching and feeling, water filtered down through a whale shaped strainer. I usually place it over his hands and tummy. He gets the biggest, cutest smile on his face....I am seriously smiling just thinking about, that's how cute it is.
I honestly could go on and on about this boy. He has turned our lives upside down but we wouldn't have it any other way!

I Love My Boys

Jon will tell you how much I wanted a girl when I first found out I was pregnant. And it's true. I was excited for bows and dresses. I am girl, so it had to be easier than having a boy. Then came the ultrasound at 16 weeks and there was a little penie. While I was excited to know what I was having, I am not going to lie, I was a little sad it was a boy. As my pregnancy progressed I found more and more excitement that I was having a boy. Then came October 20, 2011 and the little monkey mister came to our family. Oh how I love and adore my little boy! I can't imagine having a girl instead of little man (I am sure if and when we have a girl, I will love her too;)). It makes my heart so happy to see my boys together.

"Kiss Me I'm Irish"....No really on my Dad's side.....No I swear it's not just a line, my last name is Conley :)

This little monkey never hurts for kisses, he always gets them in spades!!! His kissable cheeks are a big draw. Could also explain why 10 pictures get posted for one holiday! I just can't chose :)

(So sad Jon was wearing green but it was nap time when he took off to work so no picture of him. We were going to go visit him at work but apparently people like to buy cell phones on St. Patty's Day....go figure.)

And it wouldn't be a holiday at the Conley house without a TREATY TREAT! (Mint Oreos!!!....Thanks you Pinterest!)

"Okay I tried a little bit, can I get out now? Come on mom."
"Hmmmmmm.....it's not terrible...."
"Yummmm everything tastes better with my hand."

Jumperoo!!!

Oh bless my little guys heart! We bought him a jumperoo a couple months back and were so excited for him to be around 4 months so he could use it. He was actually about 4 and half months when I decided to bust it out. I set it up and plopped him in and then looked down at his feet....they didn't touch! I couldn't help but start cracking up. Even though his little feet didn't touch, he was still in toy heaven and loved it.

*03/24/12 Update: Best toy ever! Jaxson loves his jumperoo. His feet are touching and he is bouncing!
